from a place of peace, to a home of peace...
August 7th-14th, 2010
For the last nine years, in early August, a group of pilgrims journey from the Ignatius Jesuit Centre in Guelph, to the Jesuit Martyrs’ Shrine in Midland – a place that honours early Jesuit missionaries who introduced Christianity to the Huron Wendat Nation.
Organizers of the Walking Pilgrimage truly appreciate the ongoing support and involvement of the Jesuit ministry in Guelph — the Ignatius Jesuit Centre and the Loyola House Retreat. Their spiritual leadership has been invaluable to the ongoing success of this unique event.
walking Pilgrimage is about:
- nourishing your spirituality
- enjoying the great outdoors
- getting great exercise — 20 to 25 km per day!
- having fun and enjoying good company
Those who walk the Guelph to Midland pilgrimage find it to be a unique and grace-filled experience. For eight days, pilgrims pray, sing, laugh, and share stories with others as they journey. Although the journey is not always easy, it is always rewarding.
Other groups from within the Hamilton and Toronto Dioceses also walk to Midland and as the week progresses these groups converge so that hundreds arrive together at Midland on the last day. As the groups merge, tired and weary bodies are re-energized and spirits are strengthened by the mingling of new pilgrims.
rooted in ancient tradition...
Walking on pilgrimage to a holy place has a long history in various religious traditions. From ancient times, the pilgrimage was often a rigorous physical journey that combined spiritual intent with a testing of heart and soul.
Although the pilgrims of our journey sacrifice relatively little, we too embark on a journey of faith, of hope, and of inner resolve for a common good.
Join us in 2010, as we cast off routine and for eight days acquiesce to a community of higher purpose. All ages are invited. Join us for a day, two days or for the entire trip!
